How to fix code u1000 ABS lost communication of Toyota Prado,

 "Lost ABS communication" on a Toyota Prado usually shows up as code *U0121* - the car’s CAN bus can’t talk to the ABS module. It’s a wiring/voltage issue 80% of the time, not a dead module. fd8c


Here’s the fix order that works on Prados and Hilux:

Quick checks first

1. *Clear the code and test*: Sometimes it pops up after a dead battery or jump start. Clear it with a scanner or by disconnecting the battery 10 min. If it doesn’t come back, you’re done.

2. *Check battery voltage*: ABS module needs solid 12V+. Low voltage = comms loss. Battery should be 12.6V engine off, 13.8-14.4V running.

3. *Check fuses*: Look for ABS1, ABS2, ECU-B fuses in the engine bay fuse box. A blown fuse kills power to the module. aeadfd8c

2. Power and ground check - most common fix

The ABS module on Prado 120/150 is under the hood on the driver side.

1. Unplug the ABS module connector. Check for corrosion, bent pins, water.

2. Check grounds: There’s a ground bolt near the module. Remove it, clean to bare metal, refit tight. Bad ground is the #1 cause.

3. CAN bus check

If other modules also have U-codes, the CAN bus is down.

1. At the OBD port, measure pins 6 and 14 with a multimeter. You should see ∼2.5V on both, and 60Ω resistance between them with battery disconnected.

2. If resistance is wrong, check the CAN wires to the ABS module for breaks/shorts. Don’t just tape a CAN wire - replace the section and keep the twist rate. aead892c

4. Module test

If power, ground, and CAN are good but you still can’t connect:

1. Try connecting to the ABS module with a scan tool directly. If it won’t connect, the module itself is likely dead.

2. ABS modules on Prado can be remanufactured. Internal CAN transceiver failure is repairable by specialist shops. aead892c

5. Clear and verify

After any repair, clear codes and do a short drive above 35 km/h. The ABS light should stay off and the module should respond to live data. 3a8d
