How to fix code 0335 on Nissan patrol

 P0335 on a Nissan Patrol `Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction`

The ECU isn’t getting a clean signal from the crankshaft position sensor, so it can’t time fuel and spark right. That’s why you’ll often get hard starts, stalling, or the engine cranking but not firing.

What causes it on a Patrol

1. Dead crankshaft position sensor 

- most common, especially on Y61/Y62 with 100k+ km

2. Damaged wiring/connector 

- oil, heat, and rubbing on the harness near the oil filter

3. Loose/corroded connector

4. Faulty reluctor ring

 - rare, but a damaged tone wheel on the crank will throw this

5. Timing chain/belt issue

- if the timing is off, the sensor reads wrong

How to fix it


1. Quick checks first

- Scan and clear the code. If it comes back immediately, it’s electrical.

- Check the connector on the crank sensor. It’s usually near the oil filter on the Patrol. Unplug, look for oil, corrosion, bent pins. Clean and reseat it.

- Inspect the harness for chafing where it runs past the engine mount.

For Y61/Y62 Patrol:

1. Jack up the front and remove the engine splash shield - 10mm bolts

2. Locate the sensor near the oil filter

3. Unplug the connector

4. Remove the 10mm bolt holding the sensor

5. Pull the sensor out. Use a pick if it’s stuck

6. Install the new sensor, torque the bolt, reconnect

7. Clear codes and test drive 9166

*Tip*: Use an OEM Hitachi or NTK sensor. Aftermarket ones often throw the code right back.

3. If a new sensor doesn’t fix it

- Check resistance of the sensor circuit with a multimeter. Should be 500-1500Ω for most Nissan CKP sensors. If open or 0Ω, wiring is bad

- Check for 5V reference and ground at the connector with key ON

- Look for damaged reluctor ring or timing chain stretch if the code comes back with rough running df8e

Symptoms you’ll see

- Check engine light on

- Engine cranks but won’t start, or stalls randomly

- Rough idle, misfire, loss of po
