How to fix code c1252 on Toyota Camry hybrid
Code C1252 on Toyota hybrids
"Brake booster pump motor on time abnormally long"
It means the skid control ECU sees the brake booster pump running way longer than it should. That usually points to a leak or worn part in the brake actuator/accumulator assembly.
What causes it
1. Failing brake accumulator*– Most common on 2007-2015 Prius, Camry Hybrid, Aqua, Axio. The nitrogen bladder inside loses pressure, so the pump keeps running to maintain pressure.
2. Leak in the brake hydraulic system – O-rings, seals, or lines leaking.
3. Worn brake booster pump motor – Pump can’t build pressure fast enough.
4. Faulty brake actuator assembly – The whole unit has the pump, motor, accumulator, and valves built in. 60b0
You’ll usually get other symptoms too:
- ABS, VSC, Brake warning lights on
- Hard brake pedal / “No power brakes”
- Buzzing/whirring sound from the engine bay that runs constantly
- Annoying beeping/chime in the cabin
- Sometimes C1256 “Accumulator low pressure” shows up with it 04a660b0
How to fix it
1. Verify with a scan tool
Use Techstream, Autel, or any tool that reads ABS codes. Check if you also have C1256, C1253, C1391. If C1256 is present, it’s 95% the accumulator. ff00
2. Test the accumulator
Turn the car to READY, press the brake pedal repeatedly. If the pump runs every 2-3 presses and runs >10 sec each time, the accumulator is shot.
3. Replace the part
- *2007-2011 Camry Hybrid / Prius*: The accumulator is part of the ABS actuator assembly. You replace the whole unit. Part numbers like 47050-52360, 47050-52470 fit Aqua/Axio/Prius C.
- *Cost*: Reman unit $400-$800, new OEM $1200-$2000. Labor 2-3 hrs.
- *DIY*: Doable if you’re comfortable bleeding brakes. You’ll need to do the brake bleed procedure with Techstream after. 60b004a6
4. After replacement
Run the “Linear Valve Offset” and “Air Bleed” utility in Techstream. Then do zero point calibration so VSC light goes out.
Quick check before spending money
1. Check brake fluid level and look for leaks at wheels, lines, and actuator.
2. Make sure 12V battery is good. Low voltage makes the pump act weird and can throw C1252 falsely.
3. Clear codes and test drive. If it comes back immediately, it’s mechanical, not electrical.
Bottom line: C1252 almost always means the brake actuator/accumulator assembly is failing. On hybrids it’s a common wear item around 150k-200k km.
What car and year do you have? Prius, Camry Hybrid, and Aqua all have slightly different actuator parts, and I can give you the exact part number and test steps.
